Immersed in the depths of the Atlantic for nearly a hundred years, the Titanic is about to receive visitors. As of Sunday, August 22, 2010, a team of scientists, led by RMS Titanic Inc., will plunge to meet in the Mission Return to the Deep. Archaeologists and oceanographers have twenty days to assess the condition of the wreckage, identifying its various components and maximum take pictures.
Although it runs to nearly 4000 meters deep, this mission will be followed by the Internet through the use of new technologies. The scientists will share their insights and feelings in real time via Twitter and Facebook page of the transaction and the video will be posted on YouTube and photos on Flickr. The event is also relayed on a website in Flash, which reproduces the wreck and its surroundings. It offers visitors a real journey to the depths of the oceans before noticing the slightest piece of the Titanic, you have to cross various waters, where it is not uncommon to see whales. Soon the Titanic modeled in 3D.
Once the wreck reached, colored dots allow access to impressive images, taken during the discovery of the boat in 1985, several comments (in English) on the scientific mission and the technologies implemented . The two mini-submarines used to conduct the surveys and equipment they ship are also entitled to their presentation. But this site is a foretaste of what will soon be offered on the Web: the researchers will board cameras 2D and 3D high resolution sonar and help to map carefully the smallest debris that used to model the site in 3D. "The data collected will allow us to reconstruct a depth and texture that is not possible to obtain with optical imaging techniques," says science team on the site. And the various points raised will also serve as a database to evaluate how changing the state of conservation of the boat.
